Relationship between metabolic syndrome and vitamin D level in patients with ankylosing spondylitis

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to reveal the relationship between level Vitamin D and development Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) in patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS).
 Materials Methods: 67 AS were included cross-sectional descriptive study. Socio-demographic data, waist circumference systolic blood pressure evaluated. Fasting glucose, HDL cholesterol, Triglyceride values recorded. Diagnosis MetS was made according National Cholesterol Education Program’s Adult Treatment Panel (NCEP/ATP III). Disease activity quality life assessed.
 Results: In present study, a significantly negative correlation detected levels patients. lower MetS. Multiregression analysis showed that positively associated BMI, level, fasting glucose negatively cholesterol D. 
 Conclusion: This shows vitamin may have role AS. However, more studies are needed explain metabolic syndrome ankylosing spondylitis.
